National Honor & National Junior Honor Societies

NHS Symbol

The National Honor Society (NHS) is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to recognize those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since its beginning in 1921. Chapter membership not only recognizes students for their accomplishments, but challenges them to develop further through active involvement in school activities and community service.

The NHS motto is noblesse oblige. This is French for "nobility obligates". In laymen’s terms, “One must act in a fashion that conforms with one's position, and with the reputation that one has earned.”

The Baptist Hill High School Chapter of the National Honor Society was established on February 22, 2016.  There was a need to recognize the top scholars at Baptist Hill for their hard work, focus, and determination.  The Baptist Hill High School Chapter is respected by administrators, faculty members, students and the community because of its reputation for excellence and integrity. Our members demonstrate that they are willing to take advantage of the excellent opportunities offered to them by the school and community, and they reciprocate by volunteering their time and talent.  Members' participation in various service activities distinguishes the Baptist Hill High School Chapter and demonstrates its four pillars. Thus, membership is both an honor and a commitment. Currently, the Baptist Hill High School Chapter boasts nearly 38 such distinguished members.

As one of the nation's foremost honor societies, National Honor Society promotes recognition for students who achieve outstanding accomplishments. Admission deans from around the United States regard membership in National Honor Society as a valid indicator that the applicant will succeed at the postsecondary education level.  National Honor Society Members are evidence that younger generations are interested in using their talents to present a positive effect on society. Membership in National Honor Society is denoted on students' transcripts and diplomas upon their graduation from Baptist Hill Middle High School.
