Cell Phone Policy

Policy JICJ, "Prohibition of Personal Electronic Devices During the School Day"
This policy, mandated by state law, is designed to create a focused and distraction-free learning environment that supports student success.
Policy JICJ Reminders:
- All electronic devices must be turned off, secured in Yondr pouches, and kept away upon arrival to school until dismissal. This policy applies to the entire campus, including classrooms, hallways, the cafeteria, breezeways, restrooms, etc.
- Students will not have access to their devices during the instructional day (7:25 am- 2:25 pm) unless explicitly authorized.
- Devices include the following: cell phones, smartwatches, earbuds/headphones, tablets, and any personal devices, non-school-issued devices, or accessories that can be used for internet access, communication, gaming, etc.
Exceptions:
- Devices may be used when approved for instructional purposes by a teacher or administration.
- Students with an Individualized Education Program (IEP), medical plan, or Section 504 accommodation that requires device use will be permitted to do so.
- Emergencies, as deemed by administration, may also allow for limited use.
Disciplinary Actions:
Violations of this policy will follow the CCSD Progressive Discipline Plan (page 6).
- If devices are found to be in use during the instructional day or in instructional areas, they will be confiscated.
- Using a device for academic dishonesty (such as cheating) or engaging in harmful behaviors like bullying, harassment, or other unethical or illegal behavior will result in additional consequences in accordance with the CCSD Progressive Discipline Plan.
Contacting Students During the Day
If you need to contact your child during school hours, please call the BHHS Main Office at 843-889-2276. Our staff will ensure urgent messages are promptly delivered. For non-urgent matters, we encourage the use of your child’s CCSD email account.
